A Renaissance celestial globe as an analogue computer

Lajos Bartha, Budapest

Abstract

A most impressive celestial globe preserved from the early Renaissance was made by Hans Dorn for Martin Bylica of Olkusz, better known as Martin Ilkusz, Royal astronomer at the court of Matthias Corvinus. This paper describes the construction and use of this instrument for the determination of stellar positions.
